More About

The Website and the Collages
Scrapwalls.com is a website that lets you upload pictures, make them into a shape collage, and order high-quality prints. You can also share ScrapWalls collages online for free. Each collage can include hundreds of pictures arranged however you like.
The key technology that differentiates ScrapWalls from other software is its patent-pending auto-placement engine. ScrapWalls will automatically arrange photos to cover any shape without gaps or overlapping – something you can't get anywhere else! But that isn't all. ScrapWalls also lets you place photos anywhere you want. It will automatically adjust surrounding photos to eliminate gaps and overlapping, leaving a picture-perfect shape collage!

ScrapWalls shape collages are printed by the industry leader in digital image fulfillment, District Photo, who also prints photos for Wal-Mart, Walgreen's, Snapfish, and many others.
The Company
ScrapWalls originated from software that one of the founders, Kevin Borders, created to help make an anniversary gift for his girlfriend. He wanted to build a shape collage with 1000 of their personal photos, and there wasn't anything out there that could do it. Kevin enlisted the help of Kyle Mulka, a fellow Michigan graduate, to help build the very first ScrapWalls shape collage. After completing the collage, shown on the right, Kevin got together with friend and then co-worker at Microsoft, Joey Golden, to transform the original software into a website where anyone could make a shape collage.
In 2007, Kevin Borders and Joey Golden founded Scrapwalls, LLC. ScrapWalls is a Michigan-based company. Sinces its inception, others have joined the ScrapWalls team, and everyone has contributed immensely to make the site and the company what it is today.

The People
Since the inception of ScrapWalls in 2007, two other fellow University of Michigan graduates have joined the ScrapWalls team: Dan Polant and Wally Nowinski. Here is a little bit about the people who are behind ScrapWalls.com:
Kevin Borders
Kevin started at the University of Michigan in 2001. He studied computer engineering as an undergraduated and stayed on to pursue his Ph. D. in computer science. Kevin started working on ScrapWalls while he was an intern at Microsoft in 2007 and finally graduated from the University of Michigan in May 2009.
Outside of work, photography is one Kevin's passions. His interest in photography is what led his involvement with ScrapWalls. Kevin wanted to make website where anyone, beginner or expert, could quickly make a unique and memorable shape collage.
Joey Golden
Joey started at the University of Michigan in 2003, where he studied mathematics. Joey always had an interest in computer science, and went to Microsoft as a software development engineer after graduating in 2007. In Seattle, Joey met up with Kevin, a friend from UM, but also going back to high school, who introduced him to the idea for ScrapWalls. Joey immediately took interest and helped Kevin create the original ScrapWalls.com. After working in Seattle for a few years, Joey returned to the University of Michigan and is now pursuing his Ph. D. in economics. (Needless to say, Joey is the one who sets all of collage prices!)
Dan Polant
Dan Polant attended the University of Michigan with Joey and Kevin. While getting his master's degree from the School of Information, Dan worked as a freelance web developer and began helping with ScrapWalls. Dan graduated in May 2010, and has been a part-time developer for ScrapWalls since then. When ScrapWalls isn't keeping him busy, Dan is also an avid musician and guitar player.
Wally Nowinski
Wally is another UM alumnus and friend of Kevin and Joey. Since graduating in 2007, Wally has been working in marketing and public relations. Wally is a devoted blogger and has managed social media for multiple political campaigns. As a member of the ScrapWalls team, Wally is in charge of getting people to come to our site. If you arrived here after seeing an advertisement or press release, then you have Wally to thank!
